Joanne Pizzino, MD, MPH, focuses on a collaborative approach to healthcare, functioning in a partnership with the patient. She asks that you call her “JP” and invites you into the most authentic, validating health experience you can imagine for yourself. In her ongoing quest to reach the heart of healing, Dr. “JP” has acquired four board certifications since graduating from Ohio State Medical School. She completed residency training with the Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas, as well as a Masters of Public Health and Fellowship in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
After 24 years of certification in Family Medicine, Dr. Pizzino now exclusively practices her board-certifications in Integrative Medicine and Preventive/Occupational Medicine. She has also been certified as an Independent Medical Examiner. With extensive training in lifestyle, occupational and environmental health, she focuses on quality-of-life concerns. After her own remarkable recovery from a disabling illness, she has pioneered the field of Integrative Medicine since 1997, becoming certified in Medical Acupuncture, and as a Health Coach. She helps empower people to heal themselves through integration of both ancient and modern therapies, high-tech and high-touch healing methods. She has taught an ongoing Functional Medicine course at the University of North Carolina Program on Integrative Medicine for over 12 years.
Dr. “JP” is a first generation American, growing up in northeastern Ohio, to parents whose first language was Italian. Graduating summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve in only 3.5 years, she worked as a professional chemist prior to going to medical school. This background allows her a deep understanding of the functioning of cells at their most basic molecular level. After interning in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, she worked in environmental toxicology prior to obtaining a Master’s of Public Health in Toxicology, and then board-certification in Preventive/ Occupational Medicine from the University of Texas School of Public Health. She later returned to the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Tyler to obtain board-certification in Family Medicine.
When a personal healing “miracle” opened her eyes to the many paths to healing not taught in medical school, Dr. “JP” began studying Eastern and Western healing techniques that led her to China to study acupuncture, and to Peru to study with shamans. She has returned to Belize and Peru multiple times to provide volunteer medical care to people living too far from civilization to benefit from our high tech wonders. She has also volunteered with Hispanic migrant workers in North Carolina because of her fluency in Spanish.
As medical director of several large corporations, including Lenovo and the City of Charlotte, she has applied lifestyle and preventive medicine to raise the health of entire populations. While running her own private practice clinic specializing in chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, she was able to successfully treat many conditions with nutritional IV therapies, mindfulness techniques, biofeedback, bioelectromagnetic therapies, and energy therapies such as Reiki and Advanced Integrative Therapy.
Being a medical intuitive, Dr. “JP” focuses on listening profoundly to the patient’s own intuition about her/his health, and guiding the seeker to pathways of healing to address the most fundamental root causes. She passionately applies her study of Preventive Aging to achieve her goal of living to at least 108 years. With her fiance’, she creates a lifestyle to make this simple, and enjoys sharing these techniques with patients. She lives younger everyday through active lifestyle choices, including daily exercise, precision nutrition, and strong interpersonal connections. Her avocations include a passion for exploring the world's cultures, and the lands and seas that surround them.
